Elsewhere…to the Island!

Fiction writing is great when it catches you.  Terrible when it fails you in those moments of staring at the screen.  Here thus is Chapter Two of what I’m now calling, “The Legend of Seven”.  Click to read.  Excerpt below as well.

He remembered.  The feeling had never left him.  The lieutenant nodded softly, remembering the words that had followed in the journals.  The dead, maimed and never found had been almost too much to bear.  “We should have gone with them.”  His friend grunted.  “We may never hear from them again.”  Locke restrained the lump in his throat from climbing higher.  So many friends.  And still no word from John.

“Hank…Captain…we must undertake this mission.  Strength in arms may not be with us…but damned it we’ve got the brains.”  Locke nodded dismissively.  The mind was willing but the heart stubborn.  “It is what it is Lieutenant.  We’ll make it as best as we can.”  The two men sat in silence once more until the call of, “Land ho!” broke across the decks above, and bringing some hope to the dark night that surrounded them.  “Mr. Autumn, please see we have all men on deck.  We’ll need to bring the Homicide into port with all hands.”  A small salute and Alan vanished through the hallways, waking the huddled masses.
