nablowrimo day 16- “Walking on Broken Glass”

This morning I was all ready to get up and go to work early and get things done, take names, kick butt and chew bubblegum. Then I found out I was out of bubblegum.

I showered, dressed and was out my door and before you could say, “sweet bessy’s bottom!” there sat before me my wonderful car with the driver’s side window smashed to little pieces. I was angry first. I was sure whoever it was had stolen something. Not so. They had just broken the window for the hell of it, apparently. Drunken college students on the way home from a bar is my best guess.

Setting me back 200 or so dollars (that’s the estimate right now, we’ll see how it ends up) is not so much fun. I can imagine if you’ve had a lot to drink, you’re thinking is probably dumber than your usual idiotic drunk skunk student. I’m content to accept that. What I can’t accept is punching out my window for no blasted reason. The last time this happened was just over a year ago over down in Denver at Tamarac and Hampden. At that point they broke in and stole my radio.

Mind you they were kind enough to hook up all my cords again after the fact, but the radio was gone and so was the glass. That time insurance helped me out. This time, no dice. I hadn’t signed up for the piece that would have done it. Obviously that’s been addressed this morning by correcting my previous error in selecting the wrong coverage.

So I’m left to curse some nameless idiotic yayhoo who thinks it becoming to smash other peoples stuff and cost them an additional 200 or so dollars that they really didn’t have to begin with. I mean, in this economy, can’t we look out for each other and break things without some kind of cause or good reason?

Now I’m nervous about parking it out there again, knowing that some drunk student from the University of Denver is going to get some wild eyed idea to do something destructive and the only thing on the block will be my car, parked in front of the house. I mean, I was young once. And I did stupid things. But I never ever thought that mindlessly damaging some random (gonna be honest, my Saturn doesn’t catch many a eye) lackluster looking car was the idea of fun.

Whatever. I’m now sleeping with the blinds open and the windows cracked so if I hear something, the Louisville Slugger is comin’ at cha!

  1. Man, that sucks.

  2. So sorry to hear that. It just isn’t fair. Mom

  3. Yes it does. Now I get to move my room around so I can watch from my window into the early morning hours after I get home from work.

    I should get a baseball bat. :)
