Daily- Luke 23:44-49
There is a song where the words, “The Wonders of His Love” are sung (it’s joy to the world) and there are times where I wonder if we’ve lost touch with that exact phrase.
I missed a day in my daily so I’m back to pick up the pieces. I was skimming through the New Testament and ran across the headline in Luke that simply reads, “Jesus’ Death”. I tried to move on through the pages, flipping them flippantly but that phrase kept sticking in my head.
The Death of Jesus is a huge part of the New Testament (along with his miracle filled birth) and that moment signifies the separation being removed (I blogged about that a little previously) for good. When you read the accounts of His Death there is some things lost in the translation of words to brain.
Which is why I have a overactive and overachieving imagination.
Daily- Luke 15:11-32: The Prodigal Son
Today I had a great conversation with someone I respect and love. We were dealing with our troubles and inner turmoil. As we talked, I found myself working through similar themes that we had both experienced over the last few years. A moment came where I needed a tale of biblical proportions. One that would have meaning for both of us in that moment of need.
I reached back to Luke and found the story of the prodigal son. You know the one…where he takes his father’s money and takes off on a wild goose chase of women, trouble and sin. It drops him into a pile of crap (literally) and smelly pigs. Realizing he’s made a mess of things he decides to throw himself to the mercy of his long lost father in hopes of becoming maybe a servant in the house.
When he returns of course he finds his father accepting him with open arms and love all around.
