Day 3 – Genesis 50:15-21 – Joseph’s Brothers
After 15 plus years in Children’s and Youth Ministries as a volunteer you’d think I’d have certain verses down pat and easily pulled from the memory banks. You’d think I’d have all the glorious back story ready to spill forth from my lips and educate the masses. You’d be wrong.
Today’s section is a the latter part of the Joseph story. This is after the brothers show up, find out who he is and have much gnashing of teeth and adjusting of sackcloth (not at the tearing of sackcloth yet) in hopes that Joseph won’t pull out a bazooka and blow them all to smithereens. Which begs the question of what each of us would do in the sandals of Joe? Would you draw and quarter? Or would you kill with kindness?
Day 2 – Genesis 32:22-32 – WrestleMania
The devotional book I’m using is this one here. I totally just grabbed it out of a pile. So much for prayful consideration! Today’s topic is labeled “Wrestling In the Night.” It tells of Jacob and the evening he spends wrestling a man/angel/God. It isn’t stated for fact (where is the bibliography from all these years ago…seriously!) that Jacob did indeed wrestle God but there’s plenty of anecdotal evidence to suggest it. If it was God, he played Jacob a bit. He let him win until he used GodKungFu to disable him on a pressure point.
God allowed Jacob to flex his humanity but then quickly gave him a back of the head slap to remind him that yes indeed God is still God in these Old Testament parts. The part of this verse and the accompanying materials that caught my eye was where it talks about sitting quietly before God and taking in the wild atmosphere. As New Age-ey as that sounds (get thee behind me SAATAAN!) focusing on The Lord does take some pretty unique and what some would call eccentric steps.

Day 1 – Genesis 3:1-10
Well, you’re probably wondering what in the world my daily devotion is doing here on this blog. I’ll answer it simply. I wanted to. I was tired of writing it over on one site and then not having together here with everything else. Besides as a Christian I don’t feel I should filter my content and ideas. If you’re not down with reading my opinions and reactions to The Holy Bible and even reacting yourself…then may I offer you a cup of tolerance and a side of deal with it.
I won’t be telling you to convert (THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS!) and I’m not liable to change your life with what I say but I’m here to do my daily devotion and share that with you. And maybe something I tear apart will catch your nose and we’ll have a Happy Holy Happening. Or something. Coming up with quirky names to describe your faith…that’s not how I roll.
So here’s my thoughts from Day 1 – Desire for Reconciliation in “The Message Remix: Solo”.
